In conjunction with DraftSight, Dassault Systèmes launched an open, online community, where users can access support and training resources, along with an environment to interact, ask questions and share their opinions. #Draftsight 2019 beta mac osIt generally takes just a few minutes to download and runs on multiple operating systems, including Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Mac OS (in beta). If you are currently running DraftSight 2018 or earlier, you will be able to work on the free version until December 31, 2019. DraftSight is easy to use and is available for professional CAD users, students and educators to download and activate for free.*ĭraftSight allows users to create, edit and view DWG files. So if you're already a DraftSight user, go ahead to the website and download the official release. After an initial launch last June and over 400,000 downloads, DraftSight is now all grown up and out of beta. #Draftsight 2019 beta PcI can't bring myself to bite the bullet and completely de-fenestrate my PC and go Linux-only, when I get a new PC this one will go Linux.Big news today from the DraftSight team. I have a virtual machine setup to learn Linux under that but by itself that runs very slowly. Less experienced users think their computer is just "old" or "wearing out" but there's always a reason for these slow-downs, something got changed and messed it up. Installing large packages like DS has a lot to do with it, especially once you've been through a few versions and system updates, often things don't align properly any more. Windows is great when it's first installed and everything's fresh but then it gradually accumulates these dead ends. That kind of thing makes Linux look very attractive. What usually happens is it times out, sometimes for exactly 60 seconds, sometimes more. Those security certifactes expire or change frequently and every time UAC is invoked, it wants to "call home" to check on all of them. Then scroll down to Security, then look for "Check for publisher's certificate revocation". I now have that also <1 sec., if this happens to you this is the answer -Ĭontrol Panel (not settings, the old fashioned CP, might have to look for it), Internet Settings, Advanced tab. I was lucky if I had my PC back in under 60 seconds. approval or whatever, invoking "User Account Control". #Draftsight 2019 beta installI found another one, the worst experience is when the screen dims and you get asked if you really want to install that program or it wants admin. Thanks, it's really improved my online life. either way my right-clicks have gone from ~30 sec. Worked for me.ĮDIT - I've now removed that ref. If your system has been doing this and you have installed DS, try this method. I can see all sorts of other shell extensions I don't need, I'm tossing them too. In my system's case that was a bottleneck. This may be because large installations like DS take a long time to drill down to the specific files invoked by that handler then go through a large start-up procedure involving all kinds of things you don't need, swapping out virtual memory and so on to do it. I disabled that, and instantly, my right clicks are now taking under a second again, for the first time in maybe 2 years! PHEW! What a relief. The first one I saw (following the directions and viewing all non-microsoft ones) was a DXF handler for DraftSight, something I have never ever used, didn't even know it was there. I installed a utility called ShellExView (Shell Extension Viewer) which controls these "shell extensions". Sometimes you don't even know they've done it because they don't add a *visible* menu item, or not until you right-click on something they deal with. I did some research into this and found it is usually because 3rd-party programs add handlers into your context menues. Especially when you right-click something, it can take over 30 seconds sometimes (and more and more often) before the computer does something and you can move on. #Draftsight 2019 beta windows 10mine is one of those windows 10 systems that is getting slow for reasons that are not obvious. This is slightly off-topic but I thought it would be interesting to DraftSight users.
